NASA JSC Engineering is seeking a passionate and highly motivated individual to fill the position of Senior Systems Engineer on the Pressurized Lunar Rover project. In this position you will work closely with Lead Systems Engineer and the Project Systems Engineering team as well as internal, external and international stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in systems engineering, system integration, risk management, and testing & verification. Flexibility will be key as this position's roles and responsibilities could evolve as the project moves through various lifecycle phases.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a Senior Systems Engineer for the Pressurized Lunar Rover, acting as the technical lead for requirements and MBSE activities across the SE team.
- Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior and mid-level systems engineers, ensuring consistent application of systems engineering best practices.
- Provide technical leadership for requirements development, allocation, flow-down, and traceability across Pressurized Lunar Rover systems and subsystems.
- Develop, review, and maintain system and subsystem specifications, including Interface Requirements Documents (IRDs) and Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
- Own and manage requirements baselines using requirements management tools such as Jama and DOORS Next Generation (DNG).
- Apply Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methods to support architecture definition, functional decomposition, interface definition, and requirements traceability.
- Ensure requirements are clear, verifiable, and testable, and aligned with project architecture and mission objectives.
- Provide technical leadership for the development and review of verification plans, verification matrices, and verification reports.
- Coordinate with integration, discipline, and test engineers to resolve requirements issues and close verification gaps.
- Support major lifecycle reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, etc.) from a requirements, MBSE, and verification perspective.
- Participate in technical decision-making, trade studies, and risk assessments impacting requirements and system architecture.

Requisition Qualifications:

- Typically requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Engineering and may be expected to have a related master's degree and normally possess 10-15 years of related experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated experience in systems engineering for complex aerospace or spaceflight systems, including:
- System architecture development
- Requirements definition, allocation, and management
- Design trades and system analysis
- Technical risk identification and mitigation
- Experience supporting certification of human spaceflight hardware or similarly rigorous safety-critical systems.
- Strong understanding of risk management, verification, and validation, including requirements-based verification planning.
- Hands-on experience with requirements management tools, such as Jama and IBM DOORS / DOORS Next Generation (DNG).
- Practical experience applying Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) concepts and tools (e.g., SysML-based modeling).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with SharePoint and Microsoft Office products.
Requisition Preferences:
- Experience in spaceflight systems engineering, including the successful delivery of spaceflight hardware through qualification and acceptance.
- Experience serving as a senior contributor or technical lead within a systems engineering team.
- Working knowledge of NASA and JSC systems engineering standards and practices, including:
- Safety and human-rating requirements
- Fault tolerance and reliability principles
- Discipline-specific integration considerations
- Familiarity with NASA/JSC documentation repositories, configuration-controlled databases, and standard systems engineering products.
- Prior experience supporting or participating in program-level technical review boards (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, FRR).

Work Environment
Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
Physical Requirements
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Attendance
Regular attendance in accordance with the established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
