Health Sciences Information Technology provides technology support for the six schools of the Health Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh. The team works to enhance the IT strategy in the Health Sciences and develop a technology organization and platform that supports education, research, and clinical activities. The team can enable the delivery of IT services to meet the goals of the Health Sciences, simplify the environment, and enhance services overall.
The University of Pittsburgh's Health Sciences Information Technology (HSIT) department is seeking a Classroom Technology Support Technician responsible for providing technical support and assistance to faculty, staff, and students in utilizing classroom technology resources. This role focuses on ensuring the efficient operation of audio-visual equipment, computing equipment, and other technology systems in classrooms and instructional spaces.
• Associate's degree in Information Technology, Communications, Media Production, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in AV support or related technical support roles.
• Strong working knowledge of AV systems, including sound reinforcement, video conferencing, live streaming, and presentation technologies.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly and independently.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with diverse stakeholders including faculty, students, and administrators.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and remain calm under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Flexible schedule to accommodate early morning, evening, or weekend events as needed.
Job Summary
Diagnose and resolves moderately complex computing issues and provides advanced technical support. Configures end user devices. Assists junior staff.
Essential Functions
• Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network-related issues with classroom technology systems, identifying root causes, and implementing appropriate solutions to minimize disruptions during instructional sessions.
• Perform regular maintenance tasks, such as firmware updates, software patches, and equipment inspections, to ensure optimal performance and reliability of classroom technology resources.
• Create and maintain documentation, user guides, and troubleshooting resources to support faculty and students in utilizing classroom technology effectively and independently.
• Maintain accurate records of classroom technology equipment, including tracking inventory, repairs, and replacements, and assist with procurement processes as necessary.
• Provide exceptional customer service by actively listening to and addressing the needs and concerns of faculty, staff, and students, demonstrating a positive and proactive approach to problem-solving.
Physical Effort
Moderate physical effort required. May be required to stand/move for several hours at a time. Must be able to lift and transport computer equipment weighing up to 30 pounds to various campus locations.
On-site presence required.

Additional details about Required Licensure/Certification: Preferred Qualifications: • CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) or similar AV certification. • Experience in a higher education or healthcare environment. • Familiarity with AV-over-IP systems, digital signal processing, and remote monitoring tools.
Work Schedule: 8am-4:30pm; May require early morning, evening, or weekend hours depending on event schedules.
Work Arrangement: On-Campus: Teams that work on campus, in an office, or in a lab.
