The Engineering Technician is responsible for onsite and reporting support on various projects including documentation, field inspection, and project reports. The Engineering Technician supports technology-based projects by conducting field investigations, including electrical and network troubleshooting, assisting with the installation and commissioning of equipment, and completing small projects in a fast-paced environment. The Engineering Technician will report to the assigned Project Manager or Project Engineer. Projects may involve Tollway system-wide, IDOT, or CDOT site locations and include data entry work primarily performed in JWI engineering offices, with occasional work conducted in IDOT offices.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor onsite activities for projects across multiple disciplines and companies
- Act as an inspector on job sites following contract and project guidelines
- Perform standardized or prescribed assignments involving a sequence of related operations
- Includes a role as a hands-on Field Technician
- Initiate action as needed to ensure projects follow contract and compliance obligations
- Conduct standardized tests for multiple projects and report out on results to project teams
- Gather and maintain data including testing results and drawings
- Schedule and attend job meetings
- Assemble and distribute meeting minutes
- Provide support to the Project Team to help ensure those project deliverables are on time, within budget and at the required level of quality
- Perform other duties as required/directed
Requirements:
- An Associate's degree or equivalent work experience. An Engineering degree from an accredited program is preferred
- 0-7 years of experience, preferably in engineering, project or construction management; transportation and construction industries preferred
- Previous Field inspection experience and ITS knowledge is a plus
- Strong interpersonal, administrative, and organizational skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Proficient analytical, problem-solving, and computer skills
- Ability to balance multiple priorities, work and communicate effectively in a team environment, and meet deadlines
- Experience using MS Office suite, Microstation, GIS or AutoCAD and industry related project management software
