Kegman Inc. is a Women Owned/Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business headquartered in Melbourne, Florida, that provides engineering and technical support services to U.S. Government clients. We are seeking a Geoscientist or Geophysicist to join our team supporting our government customer at Patrick Space Force Station, Florida. Kegman uses scientific means to obtain and evaluate technical data to detect and report foreign nuclear explosions and other man-made activities. This is accomplished by leveraging deployed sensors around the world and developing advanced proliferation detection technologies all aimed at preserving our nation’s security. For this position, the geoscientist/geophysicist provides expertise in research as well as calibration for event discrimination by applying seismic, infrasonic, and hydro-acoustic sciences and methodologies.NOTE: This is not a remote/telework job. This job requires the selected applicant to have an active U.S. Government-issued security clearance at time of hire and, therefore, requires U.S. citizenship.
Responsibilites:
- Investigate and apply geophysical discrimination techniques to detect, identify, and locate explosions and other man-made activities vs. natural phenomenon.
- Determine data corrections.
- Compile reference data sets and utilize for code development, analysis verification, or other geophysical evaluation requirements.
- Develop and calibrate discriminants for operational use.
- Identify and examine data/model biases.
- Research and incorporate new discriminants into an operational discriminant model.
- Answer rapid-response, applied research questions related to geophysical evaluation of individual special-interest or alert events.
- Investigate ways to reduce scatter in residuals between observed and predicted regional amplitudes.
- Perform regional moment tensor analysis and coda magnitude analysis for estimating moment magnitude using local, regional, or tele-seismic stations.
- Perform spectral ratios between special events using portable and US NDC stations, apply spectral ratios and single event spectra of explosions to model estimated depth of burial and yield.
- Masters + 5 yrs exp or PhD in: geophysics, mathematics, physics or related field.
- Documented geophysical technical expertise in any or all of: seismic, hydroacoustic, and infrasonic research, development, and application.
- Documented expertise in geophysics, regional seismic analysis, and seismic event screening to independently produce bulletins and/or reports and to test new analysis tools.
- Documented expertise in noise data analyses and calibration analyses.
- Familiarity with standard seismic data acquisition formats including: Continuous Data (CD) 1.1, Center for Seismic Studies (CSS), Standard for Exchange of Earthquake Data (SEED), mini-SEED, Society for Exploration Geophysics (SEG)-Y, Seismic Analysis Code (SAC).
- Python programming and familiarity with utilizing Machine Learning and advanced data analysis tradecraft for geophysical signal evaluation or source term generation
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills necessary to communicate with government subject matter experts or represent the government at S&T meetings/exchanges with other national experts.
- Ability to work independently and diligently. Candidate will be expected to provide exceptional support to our government customers.
- Experience working in a government Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF).
- Build events usings Analyst Review Station (ARS).
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Must have ability to be granted a U.S. Government-issued SCI security clearance.
