The Company
Our client is a global leader in microscopic imaging, with patented technologies enabling in vivo imaging of tissues across a wide range of surgical, pathology and veterinary applications. Through innovation and collaborations locally and internationally, they are expanding their portfolio and will transform patient’s lives by enabling digital biopsies for cancer screening, diagnosis, and treatment.
The Opportunity
As the sole internal IT resource, you will be responsible for planning, overseeing and maintaining operational systems, implementing new technologies, ensuring cybersecurity, and aligning IT practices with current regulatory standards. This is a hands-on role requiring both technical expertise and strategic foresight.
- Lead and own IT governance – develop, document and maintain IT policies and procedures covering data security, acceptable use, access control and incident response, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and regulatory requirements.
- Modernise and manage core infrastructure – plan and execute migration of onpremise systems and data to cloud platforms (with a focus on SharePoint), retire legacy infrastructure and minimise disruption to business operations.
- Manage IT assets and external providers – oversee procurement, configuration and lifecycle management of hardware, software and cloud services; select and manage MSPs, define SLAs and monitor performance.
- Implement and optimise Microsoft 365 technologies – lead the rollout, configuration and ongoing management of SharePoint, Intune, Autopilot and EntraID to improve collaboration, security, identity and device management.
- Strengthen cybersecurity and risk posture – conduct security assessments, design and deliver a cybersecurity uplift roadmap (including 24×7 MDR), and run regular audits and risk assessments to ensure compliance and resilience.
- Ensure robust backup and disaster recovery – design, implement and test backup and DR strategies to protect critical data and enable rapid restoration of services after incidents or outages.
- Provide handson IT support and training – act as the primary point of contact for IT issues, resolve incidents promptly, and deliver training and user guides to build digital capability across the organisation.
Requirements
The Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field. Postgraduate qualifications (e.g., Master of Information Technology, MBA, or relevant Graduate Certificate) will be highly regarded.
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g. Microsoft 365, AWS, CISSP, CISM, ITIL, CompTIA).
- 7+ years’ experience in progressive IT roles, including time as a senior or sole IT manager in an SME environment.
- Strong track record managing and modernising IT infrastructure, including cloud migrations (SharePoint, Azure, AWS) and implementing Microsoft 365 tools such as SharePoint, Intune, Autopilot and EntraID.
- Confident in cybersecurity, risk and compliance, with experience conducting security audits, developing uplift roadmaps and working with 24x7 MDR services, alongside familiarity with standards such as ISO 27001, GDPR and Australian Privacy Principles.
- Comfortable owning IT governance and policy, data protection, backup and disaster recovery, and ensuring systems and processes support a regulated environment.
- Skills in vendor and MSP management, procurement and lifecycle management of hardware, software and cloud services, including negotiating and managing SLAs.
- Hands-on, proactive problem solver with excellent communication skills, able to support users at all levels, juggle competing priorities independently, and bring a strategic, improvement-focused mindset to the IT function.
The Offer
