Position Overview: As an Internal Medicine (IM) Veterinary Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting our internists while providing top level care for our patients. You will act as a liaison between our veterinary team and clients, delivering important updates and care instructions. Your work will involve a combination of direct communication (phone, email, in-person) and hands-on technical support during diagnostic and treatment procedures. We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with excellent communication skills, a strong ability to work collaboratively, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities: As an IM Veterinary Technician, you will:
Facilitate appointments by obtaining history, facilitating patient evaluation, filling medications, assisting with and performing diagnostics and procedures.
Demonstrate proficiency in various technical skills including venipuncture and catheter placement, constant rate infusions (CRI) calculations and other advanced medical calculations.
Perform sedation and anesthesia including developing protocols, ensuring patient monitoring and appropriate recovery.
Facilitate patient intake, discharge, medical record completion and appropriate sample submissions.
Safely restrain dogs and cats for examination and brief procedures.
Prepare, organize, and maintain exam rooms as well as clinical and procedure spaces.
Set up and assist with various endoscopic procedures.
Maintain efficiency and organization in a fast paced environment
Exhibit professional written and verbal communications skills in all aspects of client interactions.
Demonstrate willingness and ability to train and coach new and developing team members.
Exhibit adaptability to ever changing priorities of the day and patients and clients needs.
Demonstrate commitment to further education and growth within a teaching environment.
Exhibit responsibility and autonomy when executing technical skills, prioritizing and using sound clinical judgment while multi-tasking, and maintaining excellent communication skills with a positive attitude working both independently and within a cohesive team.
Education & Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a veterinary specialty hospital, ideally with a focus on Internal Medicine.
Veterinary Certification preferred, but not required.
Schedule:
10 hour shifts Monday-Friday. Potentially Saturday in the future.
Weekend and on-call availability
