Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Master Enterprise Architect (EA) with deep VA domain expertise and a strong data-focused background to support the Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) program. In this role, you will directly support. Cerner configuration efforts to enhance clinical adoption, improve usability, and strengthen patient safety across the enterprise. You will analyze variations in VistA systems, evaluate clinical decision support (CDS) artifacts, and contribute to high-impact data migration strategies critical to the VA's modernization journey.
This position is ideal for a senior-level professional who thrives in complex environments, understands the evolution of VA technologies from legacy systems to current platforms, and is driven to improve healthcare outcomes for Veterans.
Master Enterprise Architect (EA) will:
- Analyze and document variation in VistA systems that may affect data migration into Cerner.
- Evaluate VistA-related CDS artifacts (e.g., reminders, flags), identifying local vs. national variation and implications for Cerner configuration.
- Catalog CDS artifacts into a searchable, structured database to support enterprise-wide transparency and continuity.
- Leverage automated VistA queries to extract, validate, and interpret data supporting CDS analysis and migration efforts.
- Develop and update system diagrams, including VistA Lab schema documentation, to support clinical and technical decision-making.
- Conduct ongoing research into VistA Lab data, including units of measure and data element selection.
- Support quarterly eCDS data refreshes, including posting Oracle Order Synonym data and refining refresh processes for accuracy and timeliness.
- Respond to inquiries related to NSR 20250801 Secure and Scalable eCDS Data Transfer.
- Participate in planning efforts for upcoming eCDS Lab scope expansions and modernization tasks.
- Maintain and update documentation within internal systems such as SharePoint to ensure transparency and audit readiness.
- Navigate and apply VA policies, protocols, and procedures related to clinical, technical, and data governance matters.
- Collaborate effectively with VA executives, clinicians, technical teams, and program leadership.

Qualifications
Required Skills:
Proven success serving as a VA Enterprise Architect with a strong emphasis on data strategy, data governance, and system interoperability.
Demonstrated ability to operate at executive, clinical, and technical levels, with a deep understanding of cross-functional needs.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work within existing constraints ("working with what is available").
Comprehensive understanding of VA technologies—from legacy systems from the 1970s through modern cloud-enabled platforms.
Extensive experience supporting VistA, Cerner, and related VA healthcare data systems.
Ability to independently create data models, diagrams, technical analyses, and system documentation.
Skilled at navigating complex VA organizational structures, policies, and decision-making protocols.
Passion for improving healthcare quality, safety, and outcomes for Veterans through impactful data and technology improvements.
Education:
Required: Bachelor's degree required.
Preferred: Master's degree in information systems, Computer Science, Health Informatics, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field
Certifications (Preferred)
A Enterprise Architect certification or equivalent recognized VA EA qualifications.
TOGAF, FEAC, or other enterprise architecture certifications.
Relevant data or health IT certifications (e.g., CHDA, CPHI, Cerner certifications).
