What You Will Do
- Serve as Principal Architect and Project Manager for all University design requests, including new construction and renovations.
- Work directly with commissioned Architectural and Engineering firms, making design and construction decisions on behalf of the University.
- Review contracts on behalf of the Board of Trustees.
- Serve as the Building Code Authority for the University (all campuses).
- Act as the primary point of contact for client communications.
- Supervise Architects, Construction Project Coordinators, Project Engineers, Drafters, and assigned student staff.
- Ensure work products are efficient, effective, and compliant with governing regulations and standards.
- Establish schedules, budgets, and tracking mechanisms to manage scope and ensure timelines and clients' needs are met.
- Support modernization of systems and processes to promote agile and effective project management.
- Serve as University liaison with the Capital Development Board (CDB).
- Design, estimate and partner with SIUE resources to implement renovation and modification projects internally managed by the Facilities Management Unit.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
- A Bachelors degree in architecture, campus planning or a related field OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required for licensure
- Licensed Architect in compliance with AIA, NCARB and applicable state licensure requirements; must obtain Illinois state specific license within 3 months of hire.
- 5+ years of experience in architectural project management
- 5+ years of experience managing multiple and diverse capital projects
- 3+ years of experience in supervising architecture, construction, and design personnel
Note: The required years of experience for minimum acceptable qualifications can be concurrent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensed Architect in the State of Illinois
- Graduate or professional degree in architecture, campus planning or related field
- University work experience
- Experience with campus or building master planning and facilities design
- 5+ years of experience in supervising the work of junior level Architects
- Expertise in design software and project management software
- Expertise in building codes
- Strong communication, leadership and team-building skills
- Knowledge of sustainable design principles
