Commonwealth Rolled Products is a leading manufacturer of Aluminum rolled products for the Automotive, Commercial, and Industrial markets. The Company operates its production facility in Lewisport, KY with the support of an Automotive Innovation Center for R&D, Sales and Field Service in Madison Heights (DET), and Inside Sales in the Cleveland, OH area.
Our production facility is seeking to add a talented Process and Product Quality (PPQ) Technician to its Automotive Body Sheet (ABS). The purpose of this role is to hold, improve and transfer knowledge of processes and quality, responsible for process improvement & assurance, support product implementation, define and start up new investments and processes. The key responsibility is to generate and manage all process and quality settings to ensure a robust process that delivers right first-time quality.
Responsibilities Include:
Actively participate in maintaining a zero-incident safety culture.

Provide day to day quality support for operations and timely dispositioning of produced material coming off the CALP lines. This includes utilizing operator feedback from the Inline Quality System, Parsytec visual inspection system, and IBA trends. Maintain a running knowledge of the day to day events to help prioritize efforts amongst the PPQ engineers
Work with the operations group to determine the impact of quality defects to the order.
Provide expertise, practical and administrative support to the PPQ Engineers/leads to facilitate efficient and effective execution of the ongoing process and product improvement and development projects (drive best practices)
Conduct the initial investigation and fact gathering required to complete a root cause analysis.
Assist with the development of appropriate standards and measurements for key input and output variables consistent with quality and production requirements.
Conduct daily quality checks of the process and for adherence to standards.
Help improve current quality procedures and develop new procedures to improve quality and reduce scrap material.
Attend/participate in the daily MRB Quality meeting in the disposition of material.
Assist with the development and on-going revisions to Job Instructions and Layered Process Audits. Participate in any assigned Layered Process Audits.
Assist the field engineers in investigating quality issues at customers and at toll.
Identify possible or known quality defects and initiate immediate containment of material including entry into the plant Corrective Action system per ISO/TS requirements.
Participate in completion of corrective actions
Participate in Kaizen events to improve safety, quality and production.
Coach, lead and train the work force on quality expectations and standards and to identify corrective actions of quality defects and causes of defects.
Make quality contacts with the operations group concerning recent or current quality issues.
Demonstrate effective team facilitation skills to engage cross-functional teams to deliver improvement results on time.
Monitor, report and make recommendations for improvement on ABS and plant quality issues.
Attend/participate in the departmental daily report out meetings if requested.
Participate in the development of a short and long-term quality plan for the ABS department that supports the Business Unit's strategic plan.
Work as cross functional team member to make the ABS department successful in providing a high quality product on time in full and safely.
Trial Support:
- Work with Product and R&D Engineers to develop trials and write trial requests as needed.
- Review trial requests and advise on feasibility, resources needed, data collection points, and non-standard tasks.
- Make practical arrangements with Production Planning to enable smooth trial runs.
- Coordinate trials between PPQ and Operations by communicating trial instructions and requirements to ensure complete understanding among all stakeholders.
- Coordinate and assist in the successful realization of the necessary sampling and testing on internal and external trial or production material.
- Collect data, ensure data are properly structured, archived and shared, and guarantee traceability in case of projects, claims, and customer questions..
Required Qualifications:
- 4 year BS degree, plus 2+ years of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge and skills.
- Able to organize electronic information across multiple platforms (Excel, Outlook, Access, etc)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of plant quality systems, Microsoft office suite products
- Must be willing to rotate shifts.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Good understanding of the Aluminum process
- Knowledge of the production installations in the plant to enable a safe and efficient follow up of trials
- Knowledge of automotive surface requirements
- Knowledge of MVS, MES or Oracle Collection Plan
- Certified LSS green belt and statistical training
