Description
The Portland Water District (PWD) is currently looking for an experienced SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) Technician in the greater Portland, Maine area. Our SCADA Technicians perform a broad range of tasks to ensure proper operation and maintenance of PWD’s water and wastewater systems. Combined these systems provide service to over 200,000 customers and are critical to Public Health & Safety, the environment, and local businesses. An ideal candidate will have experience with PLC programming via ladder logic, instrumentation calibration across a wide range of devices, and working knowledge of computer networking. They should also possess a desire to learn, and be located within one (1) hour of travel time from Portland, Maine.
This position requires an Associate’s Degree in instrumentation, electrical engineering, process control, or a related field.
Our SCADA Technician position has a three (3) step career ladder which is based on experience in the SCADA field as well as ISA CCST Certification. The current starting hourly rate of pay for the level I position is $30.95 for the probationary period of six months. Upon completion of the probationary period, the hourly rate of pay increases to $32.57. The Pay rates for the SCADA II and III positions on the job ladder are $32.87 - $34.60, and $34.77 - $36.59, respectively. Experienced and pre ISA CCST level 1 certified candidates may be able to start at a higher level, depending on skills and experience.

Requirements
Job Duties:
- Perform preventative maintenance activities as directed in accordance with the annual PM (preventative maintenance) program.
- Installs, calibrates, and troubleshoots SCADA instruments under supervision.
- Engaged in learning about the SCADA system standards, and refers to them during daily work efforts.
- Engaged in learning about how the SCADA system functions, and how the system interacts with Operations’ systems.
- Engaged in learning and understanding each of the software platforms utilized within the SCADA system.
- Documents activities as directed in the PWD’s CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) software.
Physical Requirements: Sitting, standing, driving, climbing (heights of 100’), bending, twisting, reaching, kneeling, squatting, walking, visual accuracy, clear verbal and written communication, keyboard usage, telephone usage, lifting (maximum 50 lbs.), confined spaces.

- An Associate’s Degree in instrumentation, electronics, computers, process control, or related field, plus three or more years of job experience.
- Possess a valid State of Maine Class C Driver’s License, with a clean driving record.
- PLC (Public Limited Company) programming for non-programmers
- Work toward achieving ISA’s CCST certification
- Between zero to two (0 - 2) years’ experience in instrumentation, SCADA, Process Control
- Perform PMs as directed on SCADA assets and software.
- Assist with troubleshooting basic SCADA issues as directed
- Engaged in learning how the SCADA system interacts with the operations systems.
- Operate and understand software platforms utilized within PWD’s SCADA system
- Knowledge of personal computers, including knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems
- Knowledge of LAN WAN
- Function well as a team player
- Good communication skills
