Description
The Senior Code Officer - Building is a highly responsible and technical professional position in the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources - Board and Code Administration Division that is the focal point between Miami-Dade County, municipal building departments, all building department certified personnel, licensed contractors, various law enforcement entities and the manufacturing and construction industries, providing oversight in maximizing the safety benefits in the built environment. The Senior Code Officer plans, organizes and directs advanced technical and professional staff in the building trade with the performance of their operational duties, participates in development of the Florida Building Code and its High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ). The Senior Code Officer - Building provides both administrative and technical support to the Board of Rules and Appeals (BORA) that is entrusted with overseeing the uniform enforcement of the Building Code and has exclusive jurisdiction in both the incorporated and unincorporated areas of Miami-Dade County with respect to its powers, duties, and functions. With the largest category of code certified personnel in building discipline area, the position also provides guidance and assistance to approximately 530 building officials, plans examiners and inspectors in 35 municipal and county permitting jurisdictions in the application of code provisions.
Experience with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Florida Building Code (FBC) – Accessibility, and the Florida Fire Prevention Code (FFPC) is desirable.
Requirements
Five years of experience inspecting building construction or examining plans. Two (2) years of supervisory experience in the construction industry is required. Must possess a Florida or Miami-Dade County General Contractor's License or a Florida Professional Engineer or Registered Architect license maintained for a minimum of five (5) years. All applicants qualifying for employment will be subject to extensive background screening and will be required to inactivate their certification at their own expense upon employment.
