Position Summary:
Midnight Sun is looking to hire an on-site Construction Superintendent to support a federal contract with the National Park Services at Catoctin Mountain Headquarters in Frederick County, Maryland. The Superintendent oversees daily field operations to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of construction projects. This role coordinates subcontractors, manages work schedules, and ensures alignment with project plans and specifications. Additionally, the Superintendent communicates daily status reports and key developments to the internal project team, ensuring transparency and accountability throughout the project. This position may function in concurrent roles.
The ideal candidate is a motivated, pro-active communicator and problem solver that serves as the primary onsite liaison for clients, addressing questions, resolving issues, and providing clear, timely updates on project progress.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Pre-Construction & Planning
- Visit project sites and contractor operations to become familiar with site location; assess project specifics and attend mandatory preconstruction meetings with Project Manager and manufacturer.
- Review scope of work, submittals, schedules, and contracts with Project Manager and site team; establish lines of communication and responsibilities with management regarding change orders, billing, and project expectations.
- Create pre-job equipment lists, schedule trucks and equipment deliveries/returns, and ensure materials are available to the field as needed.
Project Execution & Oversight
- Supervise onsite construction activities to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with manufacturer specifications and project requirements.
- Conduct daily site visits to monitor progress, track labor and production, and ensure work meets established goals.
- Coordinate and supervise site team and subcontractors; provide guidance and support to ensure efficient execution of all work performed.
- Coordinate regularly with Project Management to maintain schedule adherence, budget compliance, and timely material/labor coordination.
- Document job progress, including photos and reports, for project folders and management review.
- Submit and file all required documents in an organized and timely manner.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, safety programs, and quality standards at all times.
- Conduct pre-inspection punch lists with site team; participate in manufacturer and final inspections to ensure project completion meets expectations. Maintain a zero-punch-list goal prior to crew demobilization whenever possible.
- Perform exposure assessments and document deficiencies or shortfalls of labor and materials.
- Review and address any incidents (safety, theft, or other site issues); document and report to designated safety contact as required.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Maintain daily communication with client to review project progress, resolve issues, and manage expectations.
- Coordinate final project closeout, including warranty issuance and resolution of outstanding items.
Other
- Perform other duties as needed or required to ensure contract compliance and successful project delivery.
Minimum Requirements:
Education and Experience
- High school diploma required, 2+ years of additional training or education preferred.
- 5+ years as a superintendent on federal construction contracts required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of construction and safety standards and regulations such as: OSHA, EM 385-1-1, CFR 1910, and CFR 1926.
- Knowledge and understanding of federal construction contract requirements (FAR/DFARS).
- Proficiency in developing, managing, and monitoring Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules, including integrating overlapping design and construction activities in design-build projects to ensure on-time project delivery.
- Knowledge of construction means, methods, scheduling, cost control, and testing procedures.
- Understanding construction practices, techniques, codes and regulations.
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with clients, subcontractors, team members, and leadership, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain organize scheduling, record keeping, and multiple construction crews.
- Highly proficient time management skills with the ability to prioritize and communicate effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Ability to safely operate a wide variety of construction tools and material handling equipment.
Certifications/Licenses/Other
- Valid driver license.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
- OSHA 30-hour safety certification.
- Ability to obtain/maintain client site access and badging requirements.

Physical Demands:
Performance of the required job duties will be in an office environment along with visits to sites that are under construction which may include various weather conditions. The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
- The ability to walk terrain and surfaces that may be far or uneven.
- The ability to regularly sit, stand, walk, and talk.
- The ability to occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, squat, and reach.
- The ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to use close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust between near and far.
