Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)
Main purpose of job:
There are currently three live Government to Government (G2G) agreements between the United Kingdom and Peru:
- Reconstruction with Changes - supporting sustainable infrastruture reconstruction across schools, hospitals, civil works etc.
- Bicentennial Schools - developing new, high tech schools across Peru
- High Complexity Hospitals - delivering 3 flagship hospitals to serve complex health needs in three hubs across Peru
These G2G agreements involve a joint approach from the UK Government and UK Industry to deliver large scale infrastructure programmes that support Peru's development ambitions.
In this role you will support the delivery of these G2G Agreements. You will account manage UK companies delivering G2G programmes in Peru, alongside building and maintaining senior relationships with key Peruvian Ministries and Organisations involved in G2Gs. You will be responsible for partaking in events and activities related to the UK G2G programmes, including high level meetings, workshops, site visits, and executive boards, ensuring the UK government is well represented and can deliver on its ambitions within the G2G programmes.
You will also lead on developing a programme of events, activities and comms products to showcase the benefits of G2G programmes, as well as working with additional UK exporters to access business opportunities created through the G2G agreements.
You will provide expert advice on the commercial, cultural and policy landscape in Peru to support UK companies on their G2G journey. You will problemsolve and find solutions to complex business challenges as they arise, and become the go-to person for the programmes that you oversee.
Roles and responsibilities:
The job will require the successful candidate to work independently and take responsibility for delivering both quickly and to a high quality standard. You will have excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
The role will centre on delivering commercial benefit to the UK and will suit an individual who is confident engaging with senior contacts in both business and government. You will have a strong understanding of the importance of account management and have experience in building business relationships. You will have experience in managing or planning complex projects and/or events. You will need to keep abreast of local market and economic issues, and be willing to take the initative to solve problems.
Account Management (25%) - You will build senior relationships with UK firms delivering G2G programmes in Peru. You will meet with them regularly, and support them with the government-related elements of their programmes. You will advise them as required on cultural/political/trade related matters, and work closely with them as they develop new areas of their programmes. Where issues arise in their programmes, you will work with them to develop a joined-up UK solution and then work internally and with Peruvian partners to deliver this.
Business Opportunity Development (25%) - You will support a wider range of UK businesses in connecting with partners in Peru, and assist them in developing their strategies to land in the Peruvian market. You will develop a pipeline of business opportunities related to the G2G programmes and realted projects, gather and analyse information relating to business opportunities, and prepare briefing for interested companies. You will respond to enquiries, and ensure quality service delivery.
Relationship Management (25%) - You will build senior relationships with Peruvian counterparts in Ministries and Organisations related to the G2G programmes you oversee. You will work with them and across embassy sectors to drive progress in the G2G programmes, develop joint ways of working, and problem-solve as required.
Event and Visit Delivery / Comms (25%) - You will develop and oversee a program of events and activities to support the existing G2Gs (eg workshops, roundtables, knowledge transfer visits, site visits etc). You will in paralell preparing a series of activites that will showcase the benefits and the legacy of the G2Gs, and connect new UK businesses with opportunities arising from the G2G and related programmes. You will also develop a suite of comms products related to these events to ensure maximum exposure of G2G work.
You will be required to perform other reasonable tasks as requested by the Director of DBT or wider embassy leadership.
You will also be required to work flexibly to support wider the DBT Peru with ad-hoc high-priority projects in key sectors, such as events, missions, and visits. You will also be required to work collaboratively with other teams across the embassy to deliver on shared objectives.
Resources managed:
You will be reponsible for monitoring and delivering against an allocated budget for your area of work.
You may have the opportunity to activity manage an intern within the team, allocating tasks and supporting their development.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
Essential on arrival:
- Min. 2 years experience of business development and stakeholder relationship management
- Experience of working with government institutions
- Experience of project management and/or event delivery
- Ability to innovate, solve problems, prioritise, organise and manage multiple tasks
- Ability to work independently, self-motivate, and take ownership of establishing new work areas and projects
- Excellent research and report writing skills in English
- Fluent in both English and Spanish
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

- Knowledge/understanding of international trade and the business landscape in the UK and Peru
- Understanding of the UK infrastructure offer
- Presentation skills
- Understanding of how G2G agreements work
- Experience working in the education, health and/or water/agriculture sector
- Experience of working on a G2G project
- Experience of developing MoUs, Terms of Reference, and other cooperative agreements

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a 'reserve list. If during the reserve period of 6 months the same or largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
