Description
Experienced Seasonal Tax Preparer —Part Time or full time — $50/hour
Plymouth, MA | In-person preferred | Hybrid/remote available for the right candidate | Approximately 10 weeks during tax season. | 24 hours per week with up to 40+ depending on candidate preference
What We're Looking For
We are seeking an experienced individual tax preparer who can take an organized client file through a completed, review-ready return.
This is not purely a data-entry role. We need someone who can review the prior-year return and current-year documents, identify missing or inconsistent information, follow up with the client when needed, and complete the return with minimal reviewer corrections (the vast majority of returns sent to review should be E-File ready with no reviewer adjustments necessary).
CPA or EA credentials are not required. Strong hands-on tax preparation experience, sound judgment, and the ability to recognize when something is missing or needs further clarification is essential.
Experience Level Required
Candidates should be comfortable preparing Federal and Massachusetts individual income tax returns involving:
- W-2 income and common employee benefits
- Social Security, pensions, IRA distributions and other retirement income
- Interest, dividends, brokerage activity and capital gains
- Schedule C self-employment income
- Schedule E rental properties
- Basic partnership, S corporation, and Trust K-1 reporting
- Gambling winnings
- Unemployment and other common 1099 income
- Itemized deductions, including mortgage interest, taxes and charitable contributions
- IRA contributions and common retirement-related deductions
- HSAs and 1099-SA reporting
- Child and dependent care expenses
- Education expenses, 1098-Ts, 1099-Qs and student loan interest
- Marketplace health insurance and Premium Tax Credit reporting
- Residential energy credits
Additional experience with IRA basis/Form 8606, stock compensation and cost-basis adjustments, passive activity and other carryforward items, depreciation and asset dispositions, and more complex Schedule C or Schedule E issues is strongly preferred.
Experience with ProSeries is preferred, but not required.
Schedule, Location & Compensation
This is a seasonal position expected to run for approximately 10 weeks during the 2027 tax season (February through April 15th). We require a generally consistent weekly schedule ranging from a minimum commitment of 24 hours per week to 40+ hours per week depending on candidate preference.
The position is based in Plymouth, Massachusetts, with a preference for in-person work. Hybrid arrangements are available, and fully remote work may be considered for highly qualified candidates located in the Eastern Time Zone.
Compensation is $50 per hour, with the possibility of a higher rate for an exceptional candidate.

Apply
Please include a short summary of your tax preparation experience (to include experience with various tax preparation softwares), preferred work arrangement (in-person, hybrid, or remote), and anticipated weekly availability during tax season.
Requirements
While CPA or EA credentials are not required, we are seeking a candidate who has strong individual tax preparation experience. Even though this preparer will have their returns reviewed by a reviewer, the expectation is that the review will consist of a high level quality control review. The vast majority of returns sent to review should be ready to E-File, and those that are not should have a note for the reviewer outlining what needs to be looked at closer for more complex matters.
