Description
Alameda Municipal Power (AMP), California's oldest municipal electric utility, is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and forward-thinking executive to serve as its next, Assistant General Manager – Customer & Energy Resources
Reporting directly to the General Manager and serving as a member of the executive leadership team, this position will lead the utility's Customer & Energy Resources Division while helping shape the strategic direction of one of California's most innovative public power utilities.
This executive will partner with the General Manager and leadership team to implement AMP's Strategic Plan by aligning customer programs, energy resources, organizational capabilities, and performance measures to achieve enterprise objectives. The position offers a unique opportunity to influence how a municipal utility delivers reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy while strengthening relationships with customers, businesses, community partners, and City leadership.
What You'll Lead
The Assistant General Manager provides executive leadership for a diverse portfolio that includes:
* Customer Programs & Services
* Energy Resource Planning & Procurement
* Portfolio & Risk Management
* Rates & Pricing Strategy
* Business Development & Key Account Management
* Electrification & Energy Efficiency Programs
* Communications & Community Engagement
* Public Benefits Programs
This leader will work across the organization to ensure customer strategy and energy resource strategy are fully aligned, positioning AMP to meet evolving customer expectations while maintaining financial strength and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as a trusted advisor to the General Manager and executive leadership team.
Lead long-term energy resource planning, procurement, and portfolio management.
Develop customer-focused strategies that advance electrification, energy efficiency, and community engagement.
Guide retail rate design and pricing strategies that balance affordability, reliability, and financial sustainability.
Build and maintain productive relationships with City leadership, customers, regulatory agencies, regional partners, and community stakeholders.
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing management team while fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Drive innovation and organizational change while maintaining AMP's strong customer service culture.
Requirements
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be an accomplished executive with experience in public power, municipal utilities, investor-owned utilities, Community Choice Aggregators, or comparable energy organizations.
Candidates should demonstrate experience in several of the following areas:
* Customer programs and customer experience
* Energy resource planning and procurement
* Utility rates and pricing
* Executive leadership
* Strategic planning
* Organizational leadership and talent development
* Board and stakeholder engagement
* Cross-functional collaboration
The ideal leader is politically astute, emotionally intelligent, and comfortable working across technical, operational, and community-facing environments. They possess the ability to translate complex energy issues into practical business strategies while building trust with employees, customers, elected officials, and community partners.
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, economics, management, business or public administration, or a related field; a master's degree is desirable. Candidates should have progressively responsible executive leadership experience in public power, municipal utilities, energy resources, customer programs, or closely related utility operations.
