Chief Operating Officer - Multi-Billion-Dollar Hedge Fund | Hong Kong- A multi-billion-dollar hedge fund is seeking a Chief Operating Officer to lead its operating platform across operations, finance, compliance, governance, investor reporting, and operational due diligence.
- This is a senior leadership mandate for an accomplished hedge fund professional who has operated across the full middle and back-office spectrum and can partner closely with the CIO, investment team, investors, board, and institutional service providers.
Role Overview
- The COO will be responsible for the integrity, scalability, and institutional quality of the firm's operating infrastructure across fund operations, NAV / valuation, finance, compliance, governance, investor matters, and service provider oversight.
Key Responsibilities
Operations, Middle Office & Platform Infrastructure
- Lead oversight of trade lifecycle, settlements, reconciliations, corporate actions, cash, collateral, margin, financing, and operational risk.
- Support cross-asset activity across equities, FX, rates, futures, options, swaps, OTC derivatives, and related products.
- Partner with PMs, traders, risk, finance, administrators, prime brokers, custodians, and counterparties.
- Oversee product, market, broker, counterparty, and fund onboarding.
- Enhance automation, controls, systems, data quality, workflow efficiency, and operational resilience.
Fund Accounting, NAV, Finance & Valuation
- Oversee fund accounting and NAV production with administrators.
- Review NAV, P&L, fees, expenses, accruals, capital activity, investor allocations, audits, and financial statements.
- Maintain valuation governance across listed securities, OTC derivatives, structured products, and less liquid instruments.
- Oversee management company accounting, budgeting, cash flow, expenses, payroll, tax, filings, vendor payments, and reporting.
- Ensure financial controls across fund and management company entities.
Compliance, Governance, Investor Reporting & ODD
- Partner with compliance advisers on regulatory obligations, policies, filings, staff dealing, conflicts, AML / KYC, sanctions, onboarding, and control testing.
- Support board reporting, governance, operational risk, BCP, cybersecurity, outsourcing, and vendor oversight.
- Oversee investor reporting, capital statements, performance / exposure data, subscriptions, redemptions, side letters, MFN processes, and ad hoc requests.
- Lead ODD with institutional investors, consultants, allocators, and counterparties, including DDQs, policies, controls, and service provider materials.
- Serve as senior contact for investors on operations, controls, governance, valuation, risk, and business continuity.
Service Providers, Counterparties & Leadership
- Manage relationships with administrators, prime brokers, custodians, brokers, auditors, legal counsel, compliance consultants, tax advisers, banks, and technology vendors.
- Review provider performance, controls, resiliency, fees, responsiveness, and SLAs.
- Oversee outsourcing, vendor risk, operational dependencies, and onboarding of brokers, funds, accounts, markets, and trading arrangements.
- Design and scale the operating model as the business evolves.
- Lead operations, finance, or support staff as required.
Candidate Profile
- 12-20 years' experience across hedge fund operations, finance, fund accounting, compliance, investor reporting, ODD, or COO functions.
- Background in a hedge fund, asset manager, fund administrator, prime broker, Big 4 / audit firm, or financial services platform.
- Deep understanding of trade lifecycle, NAV, valuation, P&L, expenses, capital activity, audit, controls, and investor operations.
- Product exposure across equities, FX, rates, futures, options, swaps, OTC derivatives, and financing products.
- Experience with institutional investors, ODD teams, DDQs, fund boards, service providers, and counterparties.
- Prior COO, Head of Operations, Fund Controller, Finance Director, or senior operations / finance leadership experience highly relevant.
- CPA and / or CFA preferred; Big 4 audit background advantageous.
