Prisma Health, the largest not-for-profit health system in South Carolina, is seeking an accomplished, board-certified General Surgeon to serve as Program Director for our established General Surgery Residency Program in Greenville, South Carolina.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced and motivated surgical educator and leader to guide the continued growth and excellence of a well-established residency program. The Program Director will play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of surgeons while advancing the program's educational mission, academic success, and national reputation.

Position highlights

As Program Director, you will be responsible for the leadership, organization, operation, and overall administration of the General Surgery Residency Program. This physician leader will ensure compliance with all Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) standards while fostering an inclusive, engaging, and high-quality educational environment that supports residents pursuing a variety of career pathways, including fellowship training, academic surgery, and community practice.

Key responsibilities

• Providing strategic vision and leadership for the residency program
• Ensuring ongoing compliance with ACGME and institutional requirements
• Overseeing curriculum development, resident education, evaluation, and mentorship
• Recruiting, developing, and supporting outstanding residents and faculty
• Promoting scholarly activity, research, and academic achievement
• Collaborating with hospital and medical education leadership to further program goals
• Leading continuous quality improvement initiatives and program innovation
  
  
  

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree
• Board Certification in General Surgery
• Eligibility for South Carolina medical licensure
• Demonstrated commitment to resident education and mentorship
• Previous residency leadership experience preferred, including Program Director, Associate Program Director, Clerkship Director, or other significant educational leadership roles
• Strong administrative, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Record of academic achievement, faculty development, and scholarly activity consistent with ACGME requirements
