Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.
Essential Functions
The University of Pittsburgh Department of Neurological Surgery is hiring a Laboratory Technician II.
This position will be responsible for contributing to the day-to-day operations of the Neurotrauma Clinical Trials Center laboratory and the National TBI Biorepository and will perform essential functions including collect and process biological samples in accordance with protocols, operate and maintain applicable laboratory equipment for job functions, execute essential quality assurance activities and supports compliance with biorepository quality system. This position involves high attention to detail, safety, and good laboratory practices. Must demonstrate a professional work ethic: timeliness, dependability, and adaptability. Experience in Protection of Human Subjects in research, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance, along with database management skills, preferably knowledge of LIMS software preferred. The University reserves the right to assign other duties to employees that are not listed in this job description. This position will be included in a rotating on-call schedule.
Minimum education to be considered for this position is a Bachelor's in a related field.

Physical Effort
Requires some bending, stooping, and stretching. Walking around laboratory benches and various common laboratory rooms within the Division. The candidate will use stairs often and may have to make multiple trips between common equipment rooms between floors. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate laboratory methods and results. Requires lifting up to 50lbs.
