Landscape Architect/Designer at RANGE
Location: Portland, Oregon
Experience: See below
Compensation: Commensurate with experience
Job Description
RANGE is a woman-owned, purpose-driven landscape architecture practice in Portland, Oregon, working at the intersection of ecology, community health, and long-term stewardship. We co-create thriving places designed to endure for generations. Our approach is built on relationships, in-depth research, and dedication to craft. We are an innovative, motivated firm seeking an equally passionate teammate!
RANGE is seeking a landscape architect or designer who can co-lead complex, community-driven public work while engaging deeply with how design, ecology, and stewardship shape community health. This role is for someone who is just as comfortable managing projects and clients as they are with creative design-thinking. They should value how landscapes are perceived and used by different communities, how long-term stewardship supports those relationships, and whether a place feels safe, legible, and welcoming to all.
Our work focuses on public parks, educational landscapes, and healthcare environments where design, ecological health, and stewardship interact to shape how landscapes are experienced, used, and evolve over time. We are looking for someone who can move fluidly between design and construction project phases while contributing to a practice that is actively advancing new ways of strengthening landscapes to support public life.
Candidates should have experience helping lead projects from planning through to concept, design, permitting, and implementation. The candidate should also be ready to shape the future of our practice through project pursuits, advancing RANGE’s position as a research-based practice, and building long-term client relationships. This position offers opportunities to be hands-on within a nimble team and to express your value through a variety of roles.

- Work directly with and serve as a responsible representative of RANGE with clients and communities
- Collaborate with and lead consultants across a wide variety of disciplines

- Produce and manage scopes and fees across disciplines, schedule, and team coordination
- Manage and contribute to high quality public-facing graphics, design development, technical drawings, and specifications
- Collaborate on project pursuits
- Patiently mentor entry-level staff and/or interns
Candidate Qualifications
- Experience in public parks, educational landscapes, healthcare environments, or similar work where you:
- Operated as a project design lead and/or project manager on a multidisciplinary team
- Maintain a high-quality reputation with clients and owners
- Prepared for, facilitated or participated in community engagement events
- Navigated a variety of roles, including management, design, and construction administration
