- Project Director - Multimodal Infrastructure
Description
The Project Director serves as the senior executive responsible for the overall planning, design, delivery, and successful completion of multimodal infrastructure at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). This role provides executive level leadership for a highly complex, multi year project integrating roadway, automobile parking, rail/APM, bus, TNC and supporting utility and enabling infrastructure within an active operating environment. The Project Director is accountable for project performance across safety, quality, schedule, budget, stakeholder coordination, and risk management. This individual will lead large, multidisciplinary design teams; coordinate closely with airport leadership, FDOT and other agencies; and serve as HNTB’s primary point of leadership and accountability for this signature project.
This is a full time position based in the Broward County / Fort Lauderdale, FL area with an anticipated on site presence at FLL for a minimum of 3–4 years.
Requirements
What You'll Do:
Develops and nurtures key client relationships and is the primary company contact on assigned projects. Communicates effectively with clients to identify needs and evaluate alternative business solutions and strategies.
Responsible for financial performance on projects. Proactive management of cash, budget, schedule and project scope to ensure adherence to project goals and completion to the client's satisfaction.
Sets priorities, obtains commitments, and engages required resources through collaboration with Group Directors, Department Managers and/or Section Managers to staff projects according to the project Work Plan.
Collaborates with office and division leadership in solving challenges and ensuring business objectives are met.
Supervises and mentors’ team to achieve overall project objectives. Where appropriate, oversees the project's Project Manager(s). Responsible for/oversees project staffing, including, but not limited to; recruitment, hiring, development, retention and succession of project staff; development of plan for project staff reporting; and support for performance and compensation reviews.
Leads pursuits of mega projects and/or actively involved as part of the pursuit team for super mega projects. Partners with Client Service Leaders to develop long term strategies to identify and pursue additional business opportunities with key clients and with pursuit champions on efforts for mega and super mega projects in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA). Works with the pursuit team and marketing resources to prepare appropriate proposal and presentation materials. Leads interview and proposal presentations to the client as well as general presentations within the industry.

What You'll Need:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and 12 years of relevant experience including 4 years experience successfully managing and delivering mega and/or super mega projects
What You’ll Bring:
Project Leadership & Oversight
Provide overall direction and leadership for all phases of project, including planning, design, permitting, construction, phasing, and commissioning
Serve as the primary point of accountability for overall project performance, delivery outcomes, and risk management
Lead and integrate multidisciplinary design teams including aviation, civil, structural, parking, rail/APM, systems, and vertical construction administration disciplines
Establish clear governance, decisionmaking frameworks, and escalation protocols across project teams
Strategic Planning & Coordination
Develop and implement comprehensive project delivery, phasing, and execution strategies aligned with airport operations and longterm mobility goals
Coordinate closely with Broward County Aviation Department, FDOT, rail/APM stakeholders, utility providers, and regulatory agencies
Ensure alignment between design deliverables, permitting requirements, and the overall construction and procurement schedule
Guide deliverable packaging strategies to support collaborative delivery and minimize risk to schedule and operations
Budget & Financial Management
Oversee project budgets, cost control, forecasting, and financial performance
Manage compliance with funding requirements across federal, state, and local sources
Review and approve change orders, claims, and contract modifications in coordination with HNTB leadership and the client
Contract & Procurement Management
Provide executive oversight for procurement strategies and contract administration
Ensure compliance with publicsector procurement policies and collaborative delivery requirements
Monitor consultant and contractor performance and support resolution of commercial or execution issues
Regulatory, Permitting & Compliance
Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, accessibility, labor, and aviation regulations
Oversee permitting and regulatory coordination involving airport authorities, FDOT, and applicable agencies
Ensure adherence to applicable airport, transportation, and building standards and codes
Stakeholder, Executive & Public Engagement
Serve as the primary liaison with airport leadership, FDOT, elected officials, community stakeholders, and project partners
Prepare and deliver executivelevel briefings, presentations, and recommendations
Effectively communicate complex technical and delivery challenges to nontechnical audiences
Risk, Safety & Quality Management
Identify, monitor, and mitigate project risks across all phases of delivery
Promote and reinforce a strong safety culture across all project activities
Ensure quality assurance and quality control standards are consistently met
What We Prefer:
20+ years of experience delivering large, complex transportation, aviation, or public infrastructure projects.
Professional Engineer (PE), Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), or equivalent.
Proven experience leading large, multidisciplinary teams on major capital programs and interfacing with multiple stakeholders.
Strong understanding of airport environments and delivering projects at commercial service airports including activeoperations constraints.
Experience with intermodal facilities involving at least two modes of transportation (rail, light rail, Automated People Mover (APM) systems, ground transportation/bus, TNCs and passenger vehicle parking facilities)
Demonstrated experience with collaborative and alternative delivery approaches (e.g., CMAR, DesignBuild)
Experience working with FDOT or comparable state DOT agencies.
