Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) plays a crucial role in maintaining the nation’s nuclear deterrent and advancing scientific research. As the nation’s premier plutonium center of excellence, LANL leads efforts in safeguarding the U.S. nuclear stockpile while advancing capabilities across national security, space exploration, renewable energy, and high-performance computing. The Pit Technologies (PT) Division, within the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production (ALDWP), is responsible for world-class plutonium pit manufacturing and supporting processes at Technical Area 55 (TA-55), a state-of-the-art secure facility. We are seeking a Project/Program Specialist 2 to support engineering and process qualification activities within the PT Division. In this role, you will help ensure that pit production processes are properly qualified in accordance with Defense Programs Business Process Systems (DPBPS) requirements and Design Agency (DA) standards. You will apply project management, coordination, and analytical skills to support structured qualification efforts across LANL and the broader national security enterprise. This is a regular, onsite role in Los Alamos, NM, with a salary range of $87,800 – $143,000.
You Will:
- Provide specialized support to PT management in planning, organizing, and managing resources for process qualification activities, including developing schedules, monitoring progress, and delivering detailed reports
- Coordinate with project, program, and line managers to secure qualified resources and ensure deliverables are completed within defined scope and timelines
- Track and report on project performance, serve as a primary point of contact for communicating status and issues to leadership, and identify risks while developing and recommending mitigation strategies
- Maintain qualified processes for pit production flowsheets through a structured qualification process per Defense Programs Business Process Systems (DPBPS) requirements
- Ensure safety and security remain a primary responsibility by maintaining compliance, completing required training, integrating safety and security into all tasks, and stopping work when necessary
- Adhere to all Laboratory and regulatory requirements and actively promote a respectful, discrimination- and harassment-free work environment
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 5+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience
- Working knowledge of project or program management and regulatory/Laboratory requirements related to pit production or similar production activities
- Experience in planning, organizing, and reporting status and issues, with the ability to develop and nurture effective internal customer relationships
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel, building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts; ability to work independently in high-intensity, cross-functional environments
- Demonstrated ability to communicate ideas clearly to a wide variety of audiences through presentations and publications
- Active Q clearance required
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with qualification activities as part of a PA or DA within NNSA or a contractor organization
- Experience with DPBPS, NAP-401.1A, ALDWP's Weapons Quality Assurance Program, or similar quality management systems
