ABOUT SBS
Strategic Business Systems, Inc. (SBS) delivers AWS-aligned mission-critical cloud, cybersecurity, software engineering, and data modernization solutions to the U.S. Department of Defense, the Intelligence Community, and federal civilian agencies.
We hire engineers, architects, and consultants who want to do hands-on work on high-impact national-security programs while collaborating directly with AWS Professional Services. Our culture is technical, lean, and clearance-friendly: we invest in certifications, retain talent through long-duration prime engagements, and provide a comprehensive benefits package.
POSITION SUMMARY
SBS is hiring software engineers who specialize in graph technologies to join our AWS Professional Services team. You will design and build cloud-native applications backed by graph databases — Amazon Neptune, Neo4j, JanusGraph — to model and reason over complex relationships in mission-focused data sets.
You will work shoulder-to-shoulder with AWS architects and customer stakeholders to translate analytic and operational requirements into scalable graph schemas, performant queries, and well-instrumented production services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and build applications backed by graph databases (Amazon Neptune, Neo4j, JanusGraph) for relationship-rich mission data.
- Model complex entities and relationships; tune graph schemas and indexes for query performance.
- Develop and integrate APIs and microservices that expose graph-backed data to consumers.
- Deploy and operate graph workloads in AWS, including capacity sizing, backup/restore, and DR strategy.
- Translate analytic and operational requirements into scalable, maintainable solutions.
- Build data ingestion, transformation, and integration pipelines that feed the graph platform.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and Infrastructure-as-Code for the graph services.
- Diagnose and resolve performance issues across query, storage, and network layers.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, peer code reviews, and architecture design sessions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- U.S. Citizenship. Active Top Secret clearance preferred; candidates in a documented, government-sponsored Top Secret clearance process may be considered where contract and customer requirements permit.
- Five (5) or more years of professional software engineering experience.
- Demonstrated experience developing applications on graph databases (Neptune, Neo4j, or comparable).
- Proficiency in at least one of Python, Java, or JavaScript / TypeScript.
- Hands-on AWS experience with EC2, S3, Lambda, VPC, and IAM.
- Working knowledge of at least one graph query language: Gremlin, SPARQL, or openCypher.
- Demonstrated data-modeling expertise for complex, evolving domains.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation, stakeholder coordination, and customer-facing delivery.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior federal or defense-customer delivery experience.
- Production-scale Amazon Neptune experience (clusters, replicas, bulk loader, streams).
- Experience with data pipelines / ingestion frameworks (Kafka, Kinesis, Glue, Airflow).
- DevOps proficiency: CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CDK, CloudFormation).
- Containerization with Docker and orchestration with ECS, EKS, or Kubernetes.
- Multi-project consulting or professional-services delivery experience.
CERTIFICATIONS
Required:
- None mandatory.
Preferred:
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect — Associate or Professional
- AWS Certified Developer — Associate
- AWS Certified Data Engineer — Associate
- Neo4j Certified Professional
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
