What We're Looking For:
Zebra Technologies is seeking a highly proactive and technically authoritative Senior Sales Engineer (SE) for Machine Vision (MV).
Unlike traditional reactive support roles, the Senior SE is the technical "tip of the spear" for our Machine Vision and Fixed Industrial Scanning (FIS) business. You will act as a strategic technical advisor to our customers, a business-generation partner to our Territory Account Managers (TAMs), and a regional subject matter expert (SME) for our internal teams and partner ecosystem.
The ideal candidate possesses a strong "hunter" mentality, blending deep technical expertise in machine vision (including optics, lighting, and software algorithms) with the commercial acumen required to source, execute, and win complex Proof of Concepts (POCs) that drive direct revenue impact.
1. Proactive Business Generation & Revenue Impact:
- Technical Pipeline Generation: Proactively hunt for and generate SE-sourced Proof of Concepts (POCs) independent of inbound requests, encompassing both FIS and advanced non-FIS (e.g., Matrox) opportunities.
- Field Engagement: Conduct frequent, proactive customer-facing field visits to discover unaddressed automation challenges, validate use cases, and position Zebra's MV portfolio.
- Revenue Influence: Act as the Lead SE on high-value strategic deals, taking full ownership of the technical closure process to directly influence the territory's annual revenue target.
2. Flawless Technical Execution:
- POC Ownership: Design, set up, and flawlessly execute complex MV and FIS POCs. Demonstrate the complete "Trigger to Output" journey, proving Zebra's superiority in real-world, challenging environments.
- Solution Architecture: Architect comprehensive solutions involving camera selection, lens/lighting calculation, software configuration (e.g., Deep Learning OCR, anomaly detection), and industrial networking (PLC, TCP/IP, I/O triggering).
- High Win Rate: Provide timely, high-quality technical support for all qualified opportunities in the territory to maintain an exceptional POC win rate.
3. Technical Thought Leadership & Enablement:
- Ecosystem Training: Design and deliver high-impact, hands-on training sessions for both external channel partners and the internal core sales team, elevating the baseline MV knowledge of the entire region.
- Competitive Intelligence: Conduct deep-dive regional competitor analysis (e.g., Cognex, Keyence), documenting technical strengths, weaknesses, pricing tactics, and actionable strategies to win.
- Asset Creation: Author and publish detailed "Technical Win" case studies and "Best Practices" playbooks to scale knowledge across the APAC region.
- Advanced Expertise: Become the recognized regional Subject Matter Expert (SME) for designated advanced non-FIS technologies (e.g., Matrox Imaging hardware/software).
4. Strategic Collaboration:
- Territory Attack Planning: Work in lockstep with the regional Territory Account Manager (TAM) to co-create, review, and execute a quarterly "Territory Attack Plan" targeting key accounts and competitive displacements.
- Feedback Loop: Act as the voice of the customer/partner back to Product Management, providing structured, actionable feedback on product roadmaps, software bugs, and feature requests.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Optics, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in Sales Engineering, Field Application Engineering, or technical sales specifically within Machine Vision, Factory Automation, or Industrial Barcode Scanning.
- Deep fundamental knowledge of Machine Vision principles: Lighting arrays, optics/lenses, sensor technologies, and image processing tools.
- Proven track record of independently designing and executing successful technical Proof of Concepts (POCs) in manufacturing or logistics environments.
Preferred Qualifications / Skills:
- Experience with advanced Machine Vision software libraries and toolkits (e.g., Zebra Aurora, Matrox MIL/Design Assistant, Halcon, OpenCV).
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Profinet, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, RS232) and PLC integration.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to map technical features to tangible business value and ROI for the customer.
- Excellent presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts simply to both technical engineers and C-level executives.
- A self-starter with a high degree of accountability, capable of managing a regional technical pipeline with minimal supervision.
- Fluent in English and Local Language
Benefits:
We understand the importance of work-life balance and wellbeing, which is why we offer flexibility for our teams including: hybrid work, adaptable hours, Summer Flex Fridays, Focus Fridays, and an annual companywide well-being day to promote revitalization and success.
