Under the Deep Space Logistics Engineering Support (LENS) contract, Aegis Aerospace
employees provide engineering support to NASA to review and assess activities of
commercial and government spaceflight systems supporting lunar Gateway and other
Deep Space Logistics (DSL) mission objectives. This effort includes evaluation of
requirements, design, analysis, testing, manufacturing, verification, validation, assembly,
integration, checkout, mission preparation, and operations required to deliver cargo and
payloads to the lunar Gateway and other DSL missions and programs.
The Systems Engineer (Entry-Level) provides multidisciplinary engineering support across
several domains, including Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), spacecraft
contamination (including lunar regolith effects), and other assigned technical areas. This
role supports NASA insight and oversight activities while gaining exposure to a broad range
of systems engineering disciplines through structured mentorship and technical rotation
opportunities.
This position is intended for early-career engineers who are self-starting, eager to learn,
and capable of working in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment supporting NASA civil
servants, support contractors, and commercial spacecraft providers.
As a Systems Engineer, you will:
- Support insight and surveillance of spacecraft provider systems engineering
- products, including requirements, verification plans, and technical review documentation.
- Assist in evaluating system designs, test data, and configuration changes to ensure compliance with NASA standards and program requirements.
- Participate in technical meetings, design reviews, and readiness assessments, documenting observations and findings.
- Monitor program risks, issues, and action items, and provide objective assessments while escalating concerns to NASA leads as appropriate.
- Participate in a technical discipline rotation program to develop exposure across systems engineering functions and understand end-to-end spacecraft development processes.
- Develop Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) models using enterprise tools to identify strategic gaps in DSL missions and support structured analysis and solutions.
- Support spacecraft contamination analysis efforts, including evaluation of lunar regolith impacts and associated mitigation considerations.
- Engage directly with NASA customers, contractors, and spacecraft providers in support of technical exchanges and program reviews.
- Travel as required in support of technical reviews and mission-related activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- B.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.
- Strong analytical skills in physics, mathematics, and engineering analysis.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment consisting of NASA civil servants, support contractors, and commercial providers.
- Demonstrated coursework or exposure to systems engineering processes and
- tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Internship experience with NASA or related spaceflight programs.
- Familiarity with NASA standards, processes, and engineering environments.
- Experience with Cameo / MagicDraw or other MBSE tools.
- Exposure to spacecraft contamination, lunar regolith modeling, or space environment effects.
