Description
Remote Tax Manager PositionTired of the traditional accounting firm grind?
Tired of tracking every six-minute increment of your life?
Tired of pretending "work-life balance" exists while answering emails at 10:30 PM on a Saturday during busy season?
Tired of trying to make your non-chargeable time look...less non-chargeable?
Good. We should talk.
SingleTrack Accounting is growing quickly, and we're looking to add a CPA who wants a different kind of career - one built around flexibility, autonomy, meaningful client relationships, and having a life outside of work.
We believe great accountants shouldn't have to sacrifice their family, health, hobbies, sanity, or freedom just to build a successful career.
We work with entrepreneurs and business owners who value advice, relationships, and smart decision-making, not endless bureaucracy and internal politics. Our team works remotely, independently, and collaboratively without micromanagement, pointless meetings, or corporate theater.
This is a role for someone who wants to do high-level work, help interesting clients, and still have energy left for the things that matter most outside of work.
What the role looks like
You'll work directly with business owners and clients, helping them navigate tax and financial decisions while managing relationships with confidence and professionalism.
You'll have autonomy over your work, flexibility in how you manage your schedule, and the ability to focus on meaningful client work instead of internal nonsense.
This is not a churn-and-burn tax factory.
This is not a "face time" culture.
This is not a place where your value is measured by how miserable you are during busy season.
We care far more about judgment, ownership, communication, and client experience than rigid corporate polish.
Who we're looking for
- CPA with 4+ years of public accounting tax experience (more is great)
- Someone comfortable preparing and reviewing complex tax returns
- Experience with S corps, partnerships, multi-state, high-net-worth, and small business clients
- Experience reviewing bookkeeping/accounting work and recording journal entries
- Able to independently manage client relationships and communicate clearly
- Organized, proactive, and comfortable working remotely
- Someone who enjoys solving problems and helping clients
- Someone who can work independently without needing constant oversight
- Bonus points if you're a giant tax nerd who still acts like a human
What matters most to us
We care less about corporate polish and more about:
- Good judgment
- Strong technical skills
- Clear communication
- Ownership and accountability
- Being proactive
- Being easy to work with
- Taking care of clients
- Having a life outside of work
We want someone who values flexibility and freedom but also takes pride in doing excellent work.
Qualifications
Required
- Active CPA license (or ability to reactivate quickly)
- 4+ years of public accounting tax experience
- Experience preparing and reviewing business and individual tax returns
- Strong understanding of S corps, partnerships, high-net-worth individuals, and multi-state taxation
- Ability to independently manage client relationships
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable working remotely and independently
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage deadlines
Preferred
- Experience signing tax returns
- Experience managing engagements from start to finish
- Tax planning experience
- CAS/fractional CFO or advisory experience
- Experience working with entrepreneurs and small business owners
- Experience mentoring or reviewing work of other team members
- Familiarity with CCH Axcess, Stanford Tax, QBO, Xero, Karbon, and Gusto
Why people like working here
- Remote flexibility
- Autonomy and trust
- Less bureaucracy
- Direct client impact
- Interesting entrepreneurial clients
- A team of normal humans
- Work that actually matters
- A career that fits into your life and not the other way around
We're building a modern accounting firm for people who want to do great work without making their entire identity "being busy."
If that sounds appealing, we'd love to talk.
