Northwell Health, one of the nation’s largest academic healthcare systems, is recruiting a Transplant Psychiatrist to be a key member of Northwell’s Transplant Institute’s growing Transplant Psychiatry team, which articulates with the Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry program at North Shore University Hospital (NSUH).  The successful candidate will help implement the vision of comprehensive and multidisciplinary behavioral health services for transplant patients at NSUH, including:

• provision of inpatient psychiatric consultations and follow-up visits to medical/surgical inpatient transplant candidates and donors.
• addressing the psychiatric, psychological and social challenges associated with organ transplantation,
• performing donor evaluations for suitability of living organ donors.
• engaging in multidisciplinary collaboration with – medicine specialists, surgeons, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.
• evaluating and treating patients pre- and post-transplant (inpatient and outpatient) that have behavioral complications from medical illness, medications, and/or psychiatric disorders that are co-morbid with medical and surgical conditions, and medical complications of different psychiatric disorders.
  
  

While the transplant psychiatrist is a full-time position based in the Transplant Psychiatry team within the Northwell Transplant Institute, this individual is also a full-fledged member of the Department of Psychiatry with diverse academic opportunities that include attendance at Psychiatry Grand Rounds, faculty meetings, and faculty development seminars; and training and supervision of psychiatry residents, psychosomatic medicine fellows, and rotating medical students.

The Northwell Transplant Institute combines all solid organ transplant programs which include the heart, lung, liver, and kidney programs under one umbrella. The Transplant Institute has a strong partnership with the Departments of Medicine, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Psychiatry and Northwell’s Lung Institute. With an integrated network of dedicated interdisciplinary clinical and administrative professionals, Northwell has continued to invest in system-wide organ failure programs across several hospitals, regions, and ambulatory sites. Transplant procedures are performed at two top-ranked hospitals with advanced surgical capabilities and specialty trained staff – North Shore University Hospital and Cohen Children’s Medical Center. Before and after the transplant procedure, patients may be seen at one of team’s 40+ office locations.

The successful candidate will ideally possess the following qualifications and experience:

Education and Experience

• Board certified in Psychiatry with advanced training in transplant psychiatry preferred. Candidates who are fellowship trained in either Psychosomatic Medicine (Consultation Liaison Psychiatry) or Addiction Psychiatry are preferred. 
• Must have or be eligible for New York State medical licensure.
• Minimum of 2 years of attending-level experience in either C-L Psychiatry or Addiction Psychiatry, preferably with transplant psychiatry focus.
• Clinical experience preferably within a large health system or academic medical center.       
• Strong knowledge of Transplant Psychiatry evidence-based practices, and quality improvement methodologies. 
• Demonstrated ability to function in a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
